Quick answer

What is surface protection tape used for?

Surface protection tape is a temporary adhesive film applied to finished metal, plastic, glass, laminate or flooring to prevent scratches, abrasion and ageing damage while the product is handled, fabricated, shipped and installed. Tuftape FZCO makes it in Jebel Ali, Dubai with natural rubber and solvent-based acrylic adhesives, in low, medium and high tack grades.

Surface protection tapes are used across many industries to shield materials from damage and abrasion. A film applied at the factory or coil line keeps pre-finished and finished surfaces in new condition until the product is installed and handed over, which protects the value of the goods you ship.

Tuftape formulates its adhesives for specific surfaces and jobs, using natural rubber and solvent-based acrylic systems. The range covers materials from aluminium and stainless steel to painted metals, decorative laminates, glass and carpets, so one supplier can cover a whole project.

Surface Protection Tape: common questions

Which adhesives do Tuftape surface protection tapes use?+

Natural rubber and solvent-based acrylic adhesives. The adhesive is chosen for the surface and the conditions, for example low-tack natural rubber for automotive paint and higher-shear rubber for aluminium composite panels.

How long can the tape stay on the surface?+

Durability depends on the application. The film used for metals and plastics is rated for 6 to 12 months, and the window glass tape for 12 months, with no residue left on removal.

Can the tape be printed with a logo?+

Yes. Logos can be printed in up to 4 colours based on Pantone guides on the metal and plastic protection films.

Can you supply a custom width, length or tack?+

Yes. Films are available from 25 mm to 1320 mm wide and 50 m to 1500 m long, in low, medium or high tack. Send us your surface and process and we will recommend a grade.
